“I met Bob on Ecademy.com during our recent candidate search for the yourBusinessChannel (yBC) Million Dollar Challenge, and found his Remember the Ice concept and story to be a crackling good idea.”
“He introduced me to his positive phrasing techniques last year and I’ve been applying them in many situations. It becomes easier with practice.”
This might seem like a trivial point but it’s something that all of us do almost every week in one form or another – shopping. I’ve found that in thinking about what Bob would say in situations where I tried to improve my chances of getting what I wanted, or needed, there are a couple of key phrases that really help. When informed that something is out of stock or something that a store no longer has I used to say ‘Why?’ or ‘When will it be available again’ or ‘Arrgh, not again’. Often the shop assistant is embarrassed or wants to help given the right signals. Instead of getting frustrated and using the previous lines, I’ve found that the phrase ‘Ok, so how else could you help me today?’ or ‘Ok, so what alternatives do we have?’ work very well because it causes the assistant to think and gives them a positive way to relieve any embarrassment they may have.
“This has both helped me get more of what I want, and it has also likely lowered stress levels too.”
