Phil Richards – Inbound Marketer helps develop The RTI Community

phil-richards Phil Richards – Helps develop The RTI Community after being introduced to Remember the Ice

This blog was posted by Phil on his Ecademy.com profile (Jan 5, 2010)

Working with Bob Nicoll from Remember the Ice started with online marketing basics.  As an author and small business owner, Bob Nicoll had a successful book and a loyal group of followers and his dream was to create a membership site for them.  To achieve a membership site for his followers we had to start with online marketing basics.  I met Bob originally through Ecademy, where I read a blog of his about the Remember the Ice concept.  The thing that caught my eye was “Helping You Attract the Life You Want Through Empowering Word Choice” — I bought the book, which arrived signed by hadn with a note that it was the first of his books sold in Malta.

I read the book, well OK, I left it on the shelf for a month or two and then read it.  The concept and Bob’s way of articulation made an immediate impact on me and I could clearly see where I could improve my word choice, which would have a positive impact on my business.

I messaged Bob on Ecademy and thanked him for his book and that I hoped to meet him one day.

Bob Contacted me on Skype a few days later, whilst I was in London and we chatted about our experiences.  We talked again at the beginning of December 2009 and Bob told me about his dream of a community website where people could share their experiences of the Remember the Ice process and get further, regular support.

I immediately saw the benefit of this, certainly for me, as a person who wants to improve my use of language.

I had already decided that the Remember the Ice process could help me in business and relationships with my co-workers, family and loved ones; but I also had recognized that it is more than the concept or process that you get from reading the book that makes the difference – it is the daily application of this simple, but effective process.

For daily application – I need regular support; I know I will struggle if I attempt this on my own: that is the same for me for most things!

So I was engaged by Bob to create, develop and launch The RTI Community.

Bob had all the content, as an expert in articulation and 18 years practical experience of applying the Remember the Ice process, he is a bottomless mine of information, examples, exercises; and has all the passion required; inspiring stuff indeed!

My role for Bob was to find the platform and help him create an offer, and a marketing system to promote his community.  The specification we were looking for required that we could use Video, PodCasts, Pictures, Articles, Reports for Downloads and Forums.  And everything we were looking for had to start with Online Marketing Basics:–

  • Keyword Strategy
  • Target Market
  • Website Platform
  • Recording Data
  • Analysis of Results

Within two weeks we had a working model of The RTI Community website, with all the components that we were looking for, a pricing structure, a marketing strategy and some test content.

By January 1st 2010 we had all the opening content in place and a  month plan for content generation, with flexibility built in to cater for user requested content.

Key to this quick development cycle were:-

  • SubHub – an online hosted membership site application that is easy to learn and administer, with great support and a very cost effective pricing structure.
  • BaseCamp – an online project management tool, to keep both Bob and myself of track.

Pre-Launch

We went to Pre-Launch on January 5th 2010 to a group of targeted contacts, and expect a full public launch on February 5th, and The RTI Community is open today for new members.  It is Free to join and some of the content is free.  Premium members have broader acces to the whole spectrum of content and if you use the promotional code:  founder (all lower case) you get a 50% discount and experience the Premium Membership Free for 14 days.
